"CALLED TO A LIFE OF PRAYER "
An Anglican Community in Wales
Ty Mawr is a Christian community in the Church in Wales living under monastic vows in the beautiful Welsh border country near Monmouth in Gwent.
Our purpose is to offer an environment of prayer and hospitality to guests, visitors, those on retreat, parishes and clergy.
The Ty Mawr community is at the centre of the family of the Society of the Sacred Cross – people who link with our life through prayer, work and mutual support. Some commit to a personal rule of life to form a structure for a life of prayer in their own circumstances.
Our own dedication to a life of prayer includes praying for others and supporting the ministry of other Christians, especially in the towns and cities nearby.
If you would like us to pray for you or for someone you know, please let us know.

The Chapel
Our Chapel is always open for prayer and we have services five times a day including the Eucharist each day at noon.
We welcome people from all denominations, from other faiths and those who are simply seeking to widen their ‘spiritual horizons’.
The Grounds
Our surroundings play a vital role in the life of prayer of both the Community and our visitors and guests.
We are situated high up in the glorious border country of the Wye Valley in rolling farmland. Our gardens offer their own special gifts of peace and beauty and opportunities for solitude reflection and re-creation.
Come and See
Experience a life of prayer
If you would like to join our life for a while then women and men, married or single, may experience the contemplative life by living alongside the community for periods longer than the usual guests stay.
If you would like to know more about this do look at our ‘Alongsiders’ programme.
